Police are investigating two bank robberies that occurred within an hour of each other this afternoon, one in Brookline and the other a little more than a mile away in Boston.

At 2:40 p.m. the Brookline Bank at 1016 Beacon St. in Brookline was robbed, said Brookline Police Lieutenant Philip Harrington in a statement.

The suspect, a white male about 5-foot-5 with a heavy build, was wearing a yellow long-sleeved shirt with two stripes across it. He was last seen traveling inbound on Beacon Street at the intersection with St. Mary’s Street, police said.

At around 3:35 p.m. a Bank of America branch at 1237 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston’s Brighton section was robbed by a white male about 5-foot-10.

The suspect was wearing a grey fleece jacket and white hat. The Boston bank is about a mile and a quarter from the Brookline bank.

No further information was immediately available.
